Jackson Sides, DDS, MS
Dr. Sides is a periodontist: a dentist with three more years of specialty training in gum disease, gum recession, the bone around your teeth and dental implants. He’s our specialist on board, seeing patients at Spring Hope Family Dentistry on the last Friday of every month, so you can get a specialist’s care in the office you already know.

Education & Training
Doctor of Dental Surgery
UNC Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, where he graduated with honors, was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society and received the Drs. Carnevale and Shoulars scholarship for excellence in periodontics.
Specialty Training in Periodontics
A three-year periodontics residency at UT Health San Antonio, where he earned a Master of Science and a certificate in periodontics. His training covered dental implants, gum grafting, microsurgery, bone grafting and the treatment of gum disease.
Research Award
Recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation’s 2026 Dr. James T. Mellonig Regeneration Research Award, given for research related to regeneration.
Board Certification
He has passed the written board examination and is completing board certification.

Dr. Sides grew up in New Bern. He’s a former Academic All-American athlete and a devoted ECU Pirates fan, and he spends his free time outdoors, from the mountains to the coast.

Do I need a referral to see him?
No outside referral is needed. Dr. Abboud or Dr. Hilary will tell you if your gums or an implant plan would benefit from seeing Dr. Sides, and you can also call and ask for a consult with him.
Will my insurance cover it?
Many dental plans cover part of periodontal care, but it depends on your plan. We file your insurance for you and give you real prices before treatment starts.
Who places implants at Spring Hope?
Dr. Abboud and Dr. Sides both place implants, and Dr. Hilary restores them. We’ll help you decide who’s the best fit for your case.
